Querétaro

I had seen Querétaro mentioned in several expat Facebook groups and, on the spur of the moment, booked an overnight trip to check it out while I was visiting San Miguel de Allende. It’s considerably larger than SMA, but is known for being one of the safest cities in Mexico to live, with a high standard of living.

Impressions – June 2023

I arrived in Querétaro by bus, and then took an Uber to the city center. Overall, the city has a modern vibe which I appreciate, and I like that it has its own airport. The historic center offers an interesting contrast and is fun to wander around in.

One issue I might grapple with here is the lack of green spaces. Alameda Hidalgo is pretty nice, albeit a tad plain, but it’s kind of removed from places where I’d consider staying for any amount of time.

The area around Plaza de los Fundadores intrigues me, with its abundance of cafes and restaurants. It isn’t as touristy or hectic as the city center, and I could envision staying there for a week sometime. I also visited the Milenio Tres neighborhood, a relatively new area, but it seemed more car-oriented and lacked walkability.
