The Intercontinental Presidente Cozumel Resort & Spa is a hotel in Cozumel, located about 12 minutes south of the ferry terminal by taxi.
Why Choose the Presidente
If you’re looking for a different experience near the Riviera Maya but without sargassum, the west side of Cozumel is usually unaffected, especially south of town. There aren’t nearly as many resorts on Cozumel as there are near Playa, but there are some. While the Presidente is not the cheapest option, and it is not all-inclusive, I liked the look and feel of it online better than other options, and was not disappointed.
Things To Do
The centerpiece of the resort is a nice patch of beach, and overlooking it is a large infinity pool. Cabanas are available by the pool and also near the ocean. There are also beds by the pool; half the cost is a credit for food and drink. A dive shop is on-site, and diving and fishing excursions depart from the dock. You can rent snorkeling gear, and one-person jet skis are available, although only one was working while we were there.
Eating at the Intercontinental Presidente Cozumel
There are 3 restaurants and a bar here. We tried them all and enjoyed the food and drinks at all of them.
Our Experience
We booked a Beach Front King Room for 3 nights the first weekend of May. When we arrived they said they were upgrading us, and we ended up in the north section of the resort. I’m not exactly sure what the upgrade was, other than I think the room we would have had initially would have been in the south section. In any case, the room was beautiful, spacious, and well decorated, with a patio and a sectional sofa looking out at a patch of beach and the ocean.
The resort felt at about half capacity or even less, which could have been in part due to COVID restrictions. We thought about venturing out a little but ended up staying at the resort the whole time.
Mornings were beautiful and tranquil, and I enjoyed walking over to the palapa for a coffee each day. They have free coffee at the bar starting around 7, and there are some nice places to sit down below. We swam quite a bit, both in the beach area at the center and straight out of our room. I also did a little snorkeling, and it wasn’t bad.
