My AirBnB was near Mercado Michoacán this time, which is only a block or two away from the parks and the Walmart, with fantastic cafes and restaurants all around.
I visited the 2 locations of Postales de Café for the first time, and they are quite different. The one in Hipodromo is more of a hotel lobby, and was crammed with digital workers. I had the one on Mazatlan all to myself the afternoon I went. There’s a nice outdoor space there, or some tables inside if you prefer. I’ll definitely go back to that one.
Tacos Hola El Guero has been on my list for a long time. I’ve passed it often and also saw it on the guisado episode of Taco Chronicles. I finally stopped in and tried the picadillo (ground beef), chorizo con papa, and hígado (liver). I got the liver kind of out of curiosity, but it wasn’t bad. All were good, and cheap, but I don’t know that it’s a place I would frequent a lot.
As desserts go, the ice cream at Quack Quack was very tasty, although Bendita Paleta is probably still tops in my mind. Ballaró has an overwhelming assortment of pastries, and good coffee too, but unfortunately not a good wifi connection so it’s not really an option for working. My first experience of Knafeh, a Middle Eastern dessert with cheese and crunchy shredded filo, was at a little shop near Parque España. Delicious.
The parks as always were beautiful and there were a couple of spectacular afternoons with perfect temps and blue skies. With all the trees around I think it’s better to do evening walks earlier than I normally would, maybe around 4 or 4:30 at the latest.
