It’s a mere hour south of Mexico City, but Tepoztlán feels like a whole other world. The hills surrounding the town are beautiful and lush, and the air is fresh.
First Visit – October 2022
My first visit was a long weekend towards the end of October and while it was cloudy and rainy at times, there was also a good amount of sun each day. The temperature during the day was comfortable in the low to mid-70s.
There is a lot of good food in town. I found some of the best mole I’ve had recently at Los Colorines. If you’re looking for a fantastic view to go with your meal, check out Posada del Tepozteco. There’s a vibrant open-air market in the center with a lot of good options if you prefer. I tried my first chapulines there. Or, if you’re willing to go a little further out, you can enjoy the tropical garden feel at La Buena Vibra.
One thing I didn’t get around to this time was a hike to the Tepozteco Pyramid. These are the ruins of a temple dedicated to one of the Aztec gods of pulque, set high in the hills. But now I have the pretext to come back!
